The records of Washington includes thousands of years of native American chronicles since Europeans and Americans arrived and began to insist territorial claims. The region was allowance of Oregon Territory from 1848 to 1853, after which it was at odds from Oregon and acknowledged as Washington Territory. In 1889, Washington became the 42nd let in of the United States.
